Very good fit, stylish

Smith Optics Pivlock V90 Sunglass

Smith Optics Pivlock V90 Sunglass

I cycle about 23-27 hours a week and wear glasses as not only protection against the sun, but protection from objects such as bugs, etc. I have utilized Oakley Radar sunglasses for a considerable amount of time, but they fail me in one of my needed missions. I'm an avid time trial competitor and when I compete on my time trial bike, I utilize a Kask helmet with a pull-down visor, hence I do not need sunglasses when I am racing. When I am training on my time trial bike, however, I always find myself looking at the top rim of the Oakleys when in the aggressive TT position on my aerobars. The Smith Pivlock glasses are perfect for that mission. I now have an unobstructed, very comfortable view of the road when riding in that aggressive, flat back position.

The lens can be changed in seconds between the 3 sets of supplied lenses, and the glasses and spare lenses/extra nose piece come in a nice, solid, large, very protective, zippered case. If I have one criticism about the glasses, it would be that in the hot, humid weather of the Florida summer, I seem to sweat under these glasses - something that I do not do with my Oakleys. Perhaps it is just a function of my face geometry.

The glasses are incredibly light (1 oz on my postal scale) hence very comfortable to wear. These are probably the best sport glasses out there, and at about half the price of the Oakleys, you cannot go wrong. Also, after searching the web, I found the best price to be right here on Amazon.

  1. For 51 dollars it is a great pair of sunglasses, and add the impeccable appearance and style, not to mention the easily changing lenses makes it an unbeatable deal

  3. Very comfortable sunglasses, excellent visibility with theses lenses, and easy changeover lenses. They fit very well with a bicycle helmet.

  4. I've lusted after the Smith Pivlocks since I first saw them in an Athleta clothing catalog. But at $140, they were more than I was willing to pay. Amazon had these at a screaming deal for about $35 recently and I jumped on it. They come with 3 lenses- grey, rose and clear- and two nose pieces, black and orange (for this frame color). The lenses are easy to change out. I love the full coverage the large lenses provide. These are excellent glasses. They also came with a hard case for storage, and a soft bag for carrying the glasses in and the bag doubles as a cleaning cloth.

  5. I bought these because there are no frame rims, which obstruct my field of view when riding in the "aero position" (leaning forward with elbows in the aero bars). Other brands of glasses, no matter how cool, have framed rims that block my field of view when I ride in the aero position. I would have to either really crane my head upward to get a field of view (pain in neck), or else accept the top frame rim of the glasses obstructing my view of the road ahead -- kind of dangerous.

These glasses are a delight and even more so due to their innovation in interchangeable / removable lenses. Unlike other styles that require popping or unlocking of sorts, these lenses detach the lens from the frame at the hinge itself - making the swap from the sunny day lens to the cloudy day lens or the clear lens easier and quicker than anything I've used yet! Bravo! Five stars!!!!!

  6. I've tried a lot of different brands in an effort to find the perfect sports related sunglasses, and these finally fit the bill. I run marathons and do triathlon and need a good pair of shades that run and bike well without having to fuss with them too much. Swapping lenses is cake and the lenses themselves have been awesome and reasonably durable as well. My 3 favorite things about these glasses are:

    1. Frameless lens. This is particularly important on a tri bike when you're in an aggressive position...so much easier to see up the road without the top of the frame getting in the way.

    2. Excellent coverage. Once I slide these babies on it takes all of about 15 seconds for me to forget I'm wearing them as the coverage is complete with no light leakage. They protect well from wind and rain and truly become part of you after awhile. They're light enough as well, so I don't even notice them.

    3. They stay on. I'm a heavy sweater...seriously, and these things stay glued to my face. The rubber used on the temple grips as well as the nosepiece works well in keeping the glasses from sliding around and I find myself adjusting them only occasionally, which is really nice when you're working out.

If that wasn't enough, I recently lost my original pair after a bike ride one night and was online the very next morning ordering the exact same pair...I like them that much.

  7. Love these! They don't fog, and the interchangeable lenses are fantastic, both because they are easy to change out and the darker ones protect my eyes from the sun. I'm an ultramarathon runner and my eyes are extremely sensitive to light due to a genetic condition, so I am picky about sunglasses and love these.

  8. I ordered them recently for multipurpose including skiing and site-seeing in Europe. These shades are very stylish and I did not take any of my other much more expensive shades to this trip. During skiing they did not fog much but they did fog occasionally, so not entirely a perfect experience. If you go skiing and its overcast, both black and brown are too dark. will need the yellow color option.
