Flying Fisherman Fathom Polarized Sunglasses

Flying Fisherman Fathom Polarized Sunglasses

I've had these for a couple of months now
They are STURDY enough that I've sat on them (not directly) with no damage.
Easily the most COMFORTABLE of the 4 sunglasses I own.
LIGHT, but the material doesn't feel too cheap.
And best of all they are EFFECTIVE.
They stay on my face really well. I feel that even if i had a big head they would still be comfortable because the frame itself has just the right amount of flexibility.

The polarized effect is immediately noticeable. It eliminates a lot of reflective light from various surfaces. It also appears to be diagonally polarized instead of horizontal or vertical. Meaning i can still read LCD screens so long as they're directly in front of me.

Now to be fair I bought these after reading a thread about "what items under $100 can significantly improve quality of life." Polarized sunglasses were on the list. It turns out I had no idea what I was missing and I never use my other sunglasses anymore.

Sure polarizers can be found in your everyday drugstore or walmart nowadays. But I've compared those to these and these win. Build quality goes a long way in longevity and comfort.

  1. Really like these glasses. Styling is to my taste. Complete eye coverage. Polarization is good. Does not have the distortion you get in some glasses. This is my second pair of Flying Fisherman sunglasses (previously bought Mavericks-liked them also). Never owned an expensive pair of sunglasses but know these are hard to beat for under $20 so I certainly would buy another pair.

  2. Great look as advertised, but they were small for my big face. The product is excellent. I'm keeping them as backup when needed. Price is great for polarized glasses.

  3. Excellent sunglasses at a really good price for polarized lenses. I typically lose a pair of sunglasses every few months so the $100 and up "designer" sunglasses aren't a good buy for me; these do the job reducing glare, fit comfortably, and look good on me if I say so myself - and if and when I misplace them I'll order another pair and not feel too upset over my their loss.

  5. I am an Oakley man, but then my dog ate three pairs of Oakleys in five months. Needless to say my wife cut off my sunglasses budget. So I got these. Nothing is going to ease the pain of waiting for another real pair of sunglasses, but these are fairly comfortable and fit my face well. For the price they are a great value. I will probably order another pair as a backup.

  8. I wish the description had said that these were for small to medium faces. They look and work fine - they are well polarized for yellow lenses. At the same time as these I also got the FF Calcuttas, also in yellow, and they are big enough for my face so I will be giving these to a nephew.

I had to go looking for new yellow polarized sunglasses recently when I lost my all-time favorite Smith Optics Undertows and then found Smith now only make two models which come in yellow lens and fit my large head, and both are ugly and block peripheral vision so are not suitable for driving or sports.

Update: I gave these to my 8 year old nephew who has worn them a great deal, mountain biking (including racing), fishing, and hiking. They have held up well in the over four months he has had them, which is saying a lot for kid's sunglasses,

  9. I usually just get the cheap sunglasses from the mall, but I looked around Amazon and decided to check these out. After having used them, polarized is definitely the way to go. When they are on, the color of everything is tinted a little darker (obviously) but I find that the contrast between objects is noticeably better for me. The glasses also feel much better quality than the mall glasses so I think I will probably loose them before they break on me :) Also I personally like the tint of these lenses. It is not too darkly tinted so I can wear them at dusk and still see clearly.
